"Of course," said the physicists, who were then struggling to measure, analyze and identify everything around them. "Sound consists of a certain physical events which may which may take place whether someone is there to hear them or not. Sound is an organized movement of molecules caused by a vibrating body in some medium water, air, rock or whatever."
"of course not," said the philosophers who were questioning all of nature in the search for a"real" world. "Sound is a sensation , known only to the mind of the listener - a sensory experience which we can relate to our physical and emotional lives.
Nowadays people would just sit back and google the internet or search the wikipedia and alas
Sound according to wikipedia is a mechanical wave that is an oscillation of pressure transmitted through a solid, liquid, or gas, composed of frequencies within the range of hearing and of a level sufficiently strong to be heard, or the sensation stimulated in organs of hearing by such vibrations.
This question still puzzles people today - and puzzles them to no purpose ( a physical vibration of some material thing) with an effect ( a physiological sensation in the animal brain). and which of the two is sound? Both.
In the bible, St. John's Gospel tells us: "In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, The ancient Hindu scriptures, the Vedas describe creation beginning with the sacred sound "Ohm" and the sound "Ah"which is present in the names we use for God across the reigious spectrum such as Yahweh, Jehovah, Allah, Ra, Krishna, Jah, Ras Tafari, Bathala. Such theories say that God sent forth sound, and sound vibrated against sound at different frequencies, which produce patterns and structure, as more and more poured into the structures they became denser, eventually creating matter and it is the foundation upon which everything is built.
Sound, we often talk about it but we live with it, the music that we hear, even in the silent depths of our imagination we still imagine word and sounds, a powerful instrument that we have which is ours alone and that is our voice which holds the vibration of our heart's energy, it resonates with everything you are in that moment. You can even send its vibrations silently from within you and it will still have a powerful effect.

CHAKRA SOUND CHART
Each chakra vibrates at a different frequency, from the lowest/deepest/slowest frequency at the root to the highest/fastest at the crown – with each chakra having its own sound, just like it has its own color. Sound is vibration. Music and sound, good or bad, influence us and impact our energy systems. Sound, either as music, musical notes or chanting can be used for chakra balancing – repetition supports bringing the bodymind-soul complex into a meditative state, where healing occurs, and creates a continuous vibrational environment. Visualization with the associated chakra color while using sound can deepen & amplify the experience.

The depth and pitch increase with each chakra note or mantra sound, with the deepest sound and lowest pitch at the root, and the highest at the crown, with the intermediate chakras calibrated between then. Notes start at middle C. Bija is the Sanskrit word for the sound essence of the chakra (its seed). Focus your attention on the chakra as you make its sound, either as a note, vowel or mantra sound. Vowel or mantra seed can be repeated or chanted 3 or more times. Sounds may be soft and gentle - they do not have to be loud. You do not have to be able to carry a tune or sing to sound the chakra notes – you can sound them silently or aloud. Each chakra sound, for 1 or 2, or up to 5 minutes each, starting at the root, can be chanted as part of a sound meditation chakra balancing exercise. You would focus on the chakra as you sound the associated note, and you can add visualiziation of the associated color to enhance the meditation.
